I recently decorated this cake for a baby shower and couldn't believe how quick and easy it was. It seriously took about 15 minutes to decorate! I was quite shocked at how fun it turned out. So since posting it on the Facebook page I have had a few people tell me how much they loved it and wanted to know how I did it.
This is what you'll need to create this look:
- A turn table or lazy susan
- A large piping bag (professional sized)
- A large round tip ( I used Wilton tip #2A)
- Food coloring
- Frosting
To start I stacked the cake and popped it into the freezer for a few hours. I then did a crumb ice and stuck it in the freezer again for about ten minutes. This is to ensure that the crumbs stay in that layer and don't show up on the final project. Then I filled my piping bag with white frosting and started in the center right on the top. I did (what I call a "plain pearl boarder) and just kept moving around and around making the shapes as consistent as possible. Once I moved to the sided and got down two rows, I cleaned the piping bag well and mixed a darker shade of blue. Two rows later, I cleaned the bag, added more blue and finished the bottom rows.
I will say that the last row was the hardest for me, I'm not sure why but I'm going to decorate another cake like this again so I can give it a second try. As always, feel free to leave comments or questions for me.
